she has a safety valve. One weekend, while
making a curtain out of burlap, Kim
wondered how
well the nubby fabric would
take a dye-transfer image. Answer: Well
enough to see herself as an artisan after she

She finds images in old books or even
gift wrap and sews the pillow covers after
having a graphic artist make the heat transfer.
“It’s like silkscreening without the chemicals,”
Kim
explains. “I’m
not interested in just having
a business,” she adds. “If I can encourage
other people to grow and try new
things, that
would be a great way to give back”
